Become an Alumnae Association Board Member

The Alumnae Board is a hands-on opportunity to connect with current and former Big and Little Sisters to help expand Big Sister’s capacity to meet girls’ needs through quality mentoring relationships with women.

Title: Advocacy Co-Chairs

Number of positions: 2 (1 Former Big Sister, 1 Former Little Sister)

 

Overall Responsibility:   The Advocacy Co-Chairs will lead the Alumnae Association’s effort to expand Big Sister’s capacity to meet girls’ needs.  They will work in concert with Big Sister staff, board, and supporters to speak out on issues impacting girls and women and influence positive outcomes in their lives.

This can be accomplished through various methods, including organizing forums, serving on conference panels, and collaborating with organizations throughout Greater Boston.

 

Job Description:

  • Coordinate public education events and forums for current and former Big Sisters and Little Sisters to discuss topical issues and legislation impacting girls and women
  • Represent Big Sister in conferences and other venues that focus on mentoring or girls’ issues
  • Serve as a liaison or representative to organizations for Big Sister throughout Greater Boston and maintain strong relationships with key community members

 

Qualifications:

  • Passion for and commitment to supporting Big Sister’s mission
  • Experience with advocacy
  • Experience with girls’ and women’s issues or social justice issues
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized and flexible

 

Time commitment:

Attend quarterly Board meetings for a term of at least 12 months, plus additional hours or meetings needed for individual tasks.

Title: Connection Co-Chairs

Number of positions: 2 (1 Former Big Sister, 1 Former Little Sister)

 

Overall Responsibility: The Connection Co-Chairs will build membership of the Alumnae Association and connect current Big Sisters and former Big and Little Sisters to the Alumnae network through marketing and communications, social media and media outreach.

 

Job Description:

  • Brainstorm new ways to bring in more Alumnae Association members
  • Reach out and welcome new members to the Alumnae Association
  • Engage Big Sister’s alumnae community via social media (e.g. Twitter, Facebook)
  • Write blog entries for Big Sister’s blog
  • Write press releases and outreach to media about the Alumnae Association
  • Research new events and publish monthly calendar of events for Alumnae

 

Qualifications:

  • Passion for and commitment to supporting Big Sister’s mission
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience using social media
  • Resourcefulness, creativity and strong problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized and flexible
  • Connections with media and/or PR experience a plus

 

Time commitment:

Title: Engagement Co-Chairs

Number of positions: 2 (1 Former Big Sister, 1 Former Little Sister)

 

Overall Responsibility:  The Engagement Co-Chairs will provide opportunities for current and former Big Sisters and Little Sisters to stay active in and connected with Big Sister Association through organized social events and activities.

 

Job Description: 

  • Plan social events and activities to provide opportunities for former Big and Little Sisters to build relationships with each other
  • Conduct an annual survey of former Big and Little Sisters to help guide the events and activities of the Alumnae Association
  • Coordinate volunteers for Big Sister events
  • Assist with building membership of the Alumnae Association and welcoming new members

 

Qualifications:

  • Passion for and commitment to supporting Big Sister’s mission
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and written communication skills
  • Partnership building and event planning skills
  • Resourcefulness, creativity and strong problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized and flexible

Title: Support Co-Chairs

Number of positions: 2 (1 Former Big Sister, 1 Former Little Sister)

 

Overall Responsibility: The Support Chairs will provide support to Big Sister Association by assisting with fundraising and recruitment of Big Sisters throughout Greater Boston.

 

Job Description:

  • Work in concert with Big Sister staff to plan, lead, and organize fundraisers  and/or support annual Big Sister fundraising events
  • Attend community events on behalf of the agency to recruit women to become Big Sisters
  • Set up recruitment events to assist with outreach to potential Big Sisters

 

Qualifications:

  • Passion for and commitment to supporting Big Sister’s mission
  • Interest in fundraising for Big Sister
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and public speaking skills; ability to represent Big Sister at community events
  • Resourcefulness, creativity, and strong problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized and flexible

 

Time commitment:

Attend quarterly Board meetings for a term of at least 12 months, plus additional hours or meetings needed for individual tasks.
