Our mentors (Big Sisters) must be at least 20 years old to participate in the Community-Based Mentoring program and at least 18 years old to participate in School-Based Mentoring. While our Big Sisters come from a wide range of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, our typical Big Sister is Caucasian, in her early 30s, living in Brighton or Brookline. Our vision is to have our volunteers reflect the diversity of our Little Sisters. As such, Big Sister is committed to continuing our recruitment strategies to enlist more women of color. In 2012, 2,383 women volunteered as Big Sisters. | Big Sisters by Age | | 14-17* | 2% | | 18-25 | 36% | | 26-35 | 41% | | 36-45 | 10% | | 46-55 | 6% | | 56-65 | 3% | | *High school Big Sisters in the Big Sister Mentoring Academy |
