Our Big Sisters

Our Big Sisters volunteers must be at least 20 years old to participate in the Community-Based Mentoring program and at least 18 years old to participate in our School-Based and Group Mentoring programs. While our Big Sisters come from a wide range of ethnic, socio-economic, and family backgrounds, our typical Big Sister is single, Caucasian, in her mid-20s to early 30s, and living in Fenway or Brighton. Our vision is to have our volunteers reflect the diversity of our Little Sisters. As such, Big Sister Association is committed to engaging more women of color from the communities where the majority of our Little Sisters live.  With the help of our Diversity Council we increased the number of Big Sisters who are women of color by 1% in 2009.  In 2009, 2,047 women volunteered as Big Sisters across all programs.
