On October 27, we joined in community with more than 300 friends to celebrate an era of Deb Re’s leadership as President & CEO and looked to the future of Big Sister Boston! Big in Boston: Her Big Future, was held at The Grand in Boston and raised nearly $170,000 in support of our mission the night of the event.
Featured during the evening were remarks from Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, herself a Big Sister alumna, and Governor Charlie Baker and First Lady Lauren Baker – all long-time supporters of Big Sister Boston. Emcee, Lisa Hughes of WBZ-TV/CBS Boston (check out coverage of the event from WBZ here), read heartfelt letters of appreciation to Deb from U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh and Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and her daughter Chelsea.
During the program, Little Sisters and teen members of our Junior Advisory Board, whose stories were shared via video and on stage, told us why they are the future. Teen Big Sister Jasmine, said:
“As a High School Mentoring Big Sister and member of the Junior Advisory Board, I’ve learned what it takes to be a community, and how to be professional and take up space, especially as a woman in this world.”
The evening culminated in a roast and toast of Deb, and the presentation to her of the Deborah Re Believe in Girls award in honor of her 16 years of service to our organization.
It was a night to remember! Thank you to all our Big in Boston guests and those who gave to the Her Big Future Fund campaign. Thank you for showing up for Greater Boston’s girls and women: they are the future.
