Manager of Recruitment

Big Sister Boston is seeking an engaging and proactive individual who can create authentic connection and excitement for the Big Sister Boston Mission with prospective program participants. The Manager of Recruitment plays a key leadership role in recruiting and the hundreds of volunteers and youth who become Big and Little Sisters each year. This role’s primary focus will be on enhancing and innovating the organization’s youth and volunteer recruitment efforts to meet annual goals. The Manager of Recruitment will directly recruit youth and volunteers by securing various tabling events and making presentations for Big Sister, while also inputting inquiries via phone and web into our database along with their team. Additionally, this role will ensure the entire Recruitment department delivers excellent customer service and a seamless enrollment process for volunteers and families.

Responsibilities: 

  • Recruit potential Big and Little Sisters: Develop and oversee implementation of volunteer and youth recruitment plans (both virtual and in-person), to ensure we can reach our annual matching goals in all Programs using the following four methods:  
    • Program Participant Inquiries  
      • Process volunteer and child inquiries and applications, including pre-screening phone calls 
      • Complete all required documentation for program participant applications in Salesforce platforms per National standards  
      • Review weekly queues to ensure customer service and processing time standards are met 
    • Relationship Management 
      • Maintain, cultivate and steward new and existing Big Sister partners that generate high volume recruitment inquiries 
      • Oversee Big Sister Ambassador, Collegiate Chapter programs, and community initiatives 
      • Prospect and network at community, corporate, and civic events 
      • Identify and cultivate partnerships with organizations and individuals to recruit volunteers as Big Sisters for Community-Based Mentoring and Site-Based Mentoring and recruit girls as Little Sisters for the Community-Based Mentoring program (CBM) 
      • Engage the support of Big Sister Boston’s community e.g., auxiliary board members, Big Sisters, and other supporters in recruitment efforts   
      • In collaboration with the Development team, cultivate and steward corporate partnerships for funding opportunities  
    • Tabling Events & Recruitment Info Sessions 
      • Manage and schedule the recruitment events calendar, including repeat and new partners 
      • Conduct presentations and host information tables at recruitment events (both virtual and in person) 
      • In collaboration with Marketing, create recruitment materials and promotional social media content  
      • Gather and document recruitment event outcomes and analyze to improve recruitment strategies   
    • Social Media Presence 
      • Contribute to and use social media recruitment campaigns: Instagram, blogs, Twitter, Facebook, etc.  
      • In collaboration with Marketing, maintain current platforms and identify additional forums for program participant recruitment  
  • Lead Recruitment team and interdepartmental support: Build, develop, and lead a team of professional staff and foster a team culture consistent with the organization’s mission, vision, and values  
    • Onboard, teach and coach team members in Recruitment responsibilities to ensure achievement of department goals   
    • Monitor recruitment workplans and process flow in our Matchforce database and tracking systems, gather accurate information for reports, track performance and develop measures to ensure success  
    • Update all appropriate databases (Matchforce, Sisterforce) in a timely and accurate manner  
    • Monitor and communicate volunteer and child enrollment status and patterns 
    • Collaborate with other managers and team members to achieve department and agency-wide goals

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least two years of experience in recruitment, sales, customer relations or a related area 
  • At least one year of experience as a team leader or supervisor with demonstrated ability to build and lead a healthy and high performing team 
  • Experience in analyzing and synthesizing data and creating reports for strategic planning aligned to department and organizational goals  
  • Sensitivity to and experience in working with culturally diverse populations and with girls and women 
  • Knowledge and experience building community relationships within Greater Boston 
  • Passion and a proven track record of success in recruiting others to commit their time and talents  
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills with ability to consistently meet deadlines 
  • Ability to clearly communicate in writing and speaking to diverse audiences across different sectors (e.g., neighborhood communities, college students, corporate audiences 
  • Effective presentation and public speaking skills for audiences of 25-100+ 
  • Excited about and effective in working autonomously and within a cross-functional team 
  • Enthusiastic about learning with the ability to give and receive constructive feedback 
  • Availability and flexibility to work weekday evenings and weekends for various recruitment and community partnership events, as well as travel to varying local venues 
  • Able to carry and set up recruitment materials such as chairs, tables, banners  
  • Facility with Microsoft Office Suite and comfort with data management systems (Big Sister uses a Salesforce database platform) 
  • Access to a car strongly preferred; valid Driver’s License required

Reports to: Vice President of Programs  

Language Skills:  Written and oral fluency in English; candidates who also have proficiency or fluency in other languages, especially Spanish, are strongly encouraged to apply

Start date: Immediately  

Location: Big Sister Association Offices, 20 Park Plaza, Boston, MA. Our office will continue a hybrid working model that allows staff flexibility to work remotely and in the office. 

Compensation: This position offers a competitive salary starting at $68,598. Full-time, exempt position. Comprehensive benefits package including paid time off and health benefits.
