And the grand prize winner is...Thomas Rovero! Tom has been a project manager at the MBTA for 18 years and works in the 100 Summer Street office building where today's raffle drawing was held. Over the course of the summer, Tom purchased multiple raffle tickets, hoping for his chance to win big this year. And, he did: with ticket #824. Tom's colleague was in the crowd at the raffle drawing, and immediately ran to Tom's office at 100 Summer Street to let him know he won. Tom thought it was a joke, and was stunned when he came outside to find out that he really was our grand prize winner.
Tom and his wife live in Hingham, MA. They are the proud parents of a 19 year-old daughter and 12 year-old son. "I'm fully on board with the concept of mentoring and supporting that," said Tom. "I've benefited from mentors in my life and now that I'm well-established I want to give back."
Since we sell a maximum of 1,951 tickets (a nod to the year Big Sister Boston was founded), Tom joked that the odds were "better than getting struck by lightening or winning Powerball!"
Tom decided to take the cash. He is glad his ticket purchases were part of the nearly $180,000 raised through this year's raffle in support of our mentoring and enrichment programs for girls.
Our additional prize winners are:
