Join us for the latest installment of our panel discussion series, Conversations Among Women. This session is entitled: Disrupting Unconscious Bias, and the featured speaker will be Dr. Sherell McArthur of Boston University's School of Education.
Most of us have had experiences of being treated poorly due to another person’s unconscious bias about our identities. The emotional tolls these experiences have on us can give rise to unhealthy relationships—with ourselves and others—and can undermine our effort to perform at high levels. The cost of unconscious bias on girls and women of color are evident in the disproportionately high suspension rates of girls in schools and job dissatisfaction for women of color in the workplace. This leaves us to question what we can do. How can we help girls of color activate their agency and strength? How can we model confidence and keep them connected to their passion and power to succeed?
