2nd Annual Fashion Show

Posted 04/06/2012

On Tuesday evening, April 3, the Fairmont Copley Plaza’s Grand Ballroom was transformed into an impressive runway in preparation for Big Sister’s 2nd Annual Fashion Show. The Fairmont Copley Plaza’s Designer-in-Residence Denise Hajjar unveiled her Spring/Summer 2012 Collection at this event in order to raise money for Big Sister’s mentoring programs.

When the doors opened at 6 pm, the room was abuzz, as close to 300 Big Sister supporters gathered, mingled, and networked over hors d’ouevres and cocktails. Guests were also entertained by the live performance artist, Judy St. Peter, who painted a portrait of Lady Gaga to Lady Gaga’s music.

Emcee WCVB-TV5’s Susan Wornick set the tone for the evening with her wit, enthusiasm, and support of Big Sister’s mission – to help girls achieve their full potential by providing them with positive mentoring relationships with women. Big Sister CEO Deborah Re then took the stage and thanked guests, supporters, and corporate and community partners for coming out for a good cause.

The fashion show got under way, with many notable professional women modeling Denise Hajjar’s collection. There was Jacqui Budd, chair of the board of directors of Dress for Success; WCVB-TV’s Lifestyle Reporter Linda Holliday; Liberty Mutual’s Melissa MacDonnell; the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce’s Katy O’Neil; and Brooke McNally, daughter of Board Member Sharon McNally and Vice President of Vox Global.

Immediately following the fashion show, Susan Wornick stirred up the room and began the live auction. Proving her talent as an auctioneer, she encouraged the audience to bid and bid often. Between the live auction, raffle prizes, and ticket sales, Big Sister raised more than $31,000.

The evening was topped off with father-and-daughter photographers Kerry Brett and Bill Brett signing copies of their book, Boston, Inspirational Women. Through the generous donation of Carolyn Mugar, every guest went home with a book as a memento.
