Big Sister Association of Greater Boston honored women’s health advocate Dr. Paula Johnson this past Saturday, November 10th, 2012, at their annual Big in Boston gala with the Believe In Girls (B.I.G.) Award. More than 400 attendees came to the Museum of Fine Arts to celebrate and show their support for the organization. After dinner, 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist Kayla Harrison took to the stage to share her journey to becoming the first American to win Olympic Gold in judo.

The night’s emcee and Big Sister’s newest board member, Lisa Hughes of WBZ-TV, kicked off the program by introducing a video featuring prominent Bostonian’s including Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley; Suffolk County Sheriff Andrea Cabral; Harvard-Kent Elementary School Principal Jason Gallagher; State Street Global Advisors CFO and Big Sister Board Member Juan Carlos Morales; MA State Representative Jeffrey Sanchez; Managing Director of General Catalyst Partners and Co-Founder and Board Chair of the Greenlight Fund John Simon; and Liberty Mutual Vice President and Director of Corporate Affairs Melissa MacDonnell showing their support for the organization and identifying the importance it has in our community.

Twenty Little Sisters were treated to a question and answer session with 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist Kayla Harrison where they asked thoughtful questions such as “what keeps you motivated?”

The most moving portion of the night came during remarks given by Father of Four Little Sisters Wayne Ashley after which he invited each of his daughters and their Big Sisters to the stage.

The evening raised nearly $800,000 for Big Sister Association, which will go toward our mission of serving the girls of Greater Boston.
