Big Sister Boston Welcomes New Board Members and Chair

Big Sister Boston is proud to announce the addition of four new members to our Board of Directors and the appointment of Carey Cort as Board Chair. Cort and the 27 current volunteer board members will provide fiscal and strategic oversight to Big Sister Boston, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary throughout 2021. Last year, our organization worked in partnership with more than 3,300 girls and women throughout Greater Boston by making and supporting one-to-one mentoring relationships.

As Board Chair, Carey Cort, who has served on Big Sister Boston’s Board of Directors since 2016, brings a passion for elevating the girls and women of Greater Boston. She has a wealth of experience in volunteering, marketing, and fundraising and is the Managing Director for the Webb Innovation Center for Dyslexia.

We are pleased to welcome the following new members to our Board of Directors:

Kelly McDermott is Founder and Director of Hynes Communications. She has an extensive background in Marketing, Public Relations and Special Events. Her work is rooted in providing transformational marketing services for B2C, B2B, and nonprofit organizations including professional service firms, health care, and retail.

Maria Rivas, MD is the Chief Medical Officer at EMD Serono. A physician by training, she is a senior pharmaceutical executive and experienced corporate board director working at the intersection of business and health both domestically and globally, for S&P 100 companies.

Mia Roberts is Vice President of Community Relations at Big Sister Boston as well as Executive Director and Certified ACE Coach at Accelerated College Experiences. Mia has robust experience in the youth development space with a focus on mentoring and academic achievement.

Erica Warner, ScD, MPH is Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She has also served on Big Sister’s Diversity Board for over a decade. Her specialties include epidemiology, breast cancer research, SAS programming, data analysis, research design and implementation, project management.
