Mentoring was on the menu at Tico on Sunday, June 6, as renowned local chefs served up an inspired evening of culinary delights for 100 guests at our annual Celebrity Chef Dinner. James Beard Award winner, Chef Michael Schlow, hosted his 15th Celebrity Chef Dinner, featuring a six-course meal prepared by Schlow protégées and colleagues. Chefs included: Jeremy Sewall of Island Creek Oyster Bar, Lineage, and Row 34; William Kovel of Catalyst; Michael Pagliarini of Giulia; Justin Dain of New Hampshire’s Hanover Inn and PINE; and Leo Asaro of Doretta Taverna & Raw Bar. Hamachi, scallops, lobster raviolis, duck, and ribeye steak adorned plates at the full and festive tables.

The dinner raised $180,000 to benefit our mentoring and enrichment programs for girls. Fresh off her New England Emmy Award for Outstanding News Anchor, WBZ-TV’s Lisa Hughes, who is also a member of our Board of Directors, served as emcee during the intimate dining experience. In addition to the delicious meal, guests were treated to a live interview, conducted by Lisa, with Big Sister Katrina Langer of Revere and Little Sister Areana of Chelsea who have been matched for nearly three years. “My Big Sister makes me feel more confident and taught me how to stick up for myself,” 13 year-old Areana told guests. She also encouraged all the women in the room to become Big Sisters because “they give kids attention and that makes them feel special.”
