Meet Big Igniter Superintendent Lisa Holmes

Posted 11/01/2016

During the weeks leading up to Big in Boston on November 12, we will be recognizing our Big Igniters. These are women who are creating a better Boston for the next generation. Like Big Sister Boston, these women embody the vision of a community in which every child has access to the care and support they need to thrive.

Meet Superintendent Lisa Holmes, the fifth of our Big Igniters who will be recognized in the weeks leading up to Big in Boston on November 12. Lisa is igniting change as Chief of the Bureau of Professional Development, which includes the Boston Police Academy &  Firearms Training Unit and the Police Cadet Unit. Each summer, the Boston Police Academy holds a Teen Academy, welcoming up to 60 youth ages 10-17, for a six-week program that focuses on community involvement in the hope that the youth take the lessons learned back to their communities. In her role as Vice Chairperson of the John A. Shelburne Community Council in Roxbury, Lisa works to help  the Community Center mentor and support the youth who come to the center daily, as she did as a teen.
