Teen Empowerment’s Annual Peace Conference!

Posted 04/16/2008

You and your Little Sister are invited to attend Teen Empowerment’s annual Peace Conference.  This year’s conference will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2008 from 12:45 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Strand Theater in Dorchester.

The Youth Peace Conference brings more than 800 youth together each year for an afternoon of exploring the root causes of violence in urban communities through an original multi-arts stage show created and performed by Boston youth.  The Youth Peace Conference began in 1993 as a way to bring together Boston teens to help solve the epidemic of gang violence occuring at the time.  The first conference produced a lasting truce among five rival gangs and set the stage for a dramatic improvement in the lives of thousands of youth.  Since then, it has become an annual event in Boston, as well as Somerville.  The theme of this year’s conference is Step Up to Change:  From the Strand to the State House.

Tickets for the conference are $3 at the door, and $2 in advance.  If you are interested in purchasing tickets for this event, please contact Stephanie at 617.536.4266 or visit www.teenempowerment.org
