When talking to your child or Little Sister, it can help to:
- Practice active listening, one-on-one focused attention.
-
Provide limited, factual information as needed. Depending on the age and maturity of your Little Sister, she may have a limited understanding of events.
-
Ask her what she needs to feel safe.
-
Encourage her to take breaks and practice self-care.
-
Share examples with options of self-care, such as rest, breathing exercises, physical activity, or meditation
-
-
Normalize how hard it is to process the information, images, and videos.
-
Offer alternative trusted adults they can talk to as well.
-
Thank them for sharing with you.
