When talking to your child or Little Sister, it can help to:

  • Practice active listening, one-on-one focused attention.
  • Provide limited, factual information as needed. Depending on the age and maturity of your Little Sister, she may have a limited understanding of events.

  • Ask her what she needs to feel safe.

    • Encourage her to take breaks and practice self-care.

    • Share examples with options of self-care, such as rest, breathing exercises, physical activity, or meditation

  • Normalize how hard it is to process the information, images, and videos.

  • Offer alternative trusted adults they can talk to as well.

  • Thank them for sharing with you.
